Caption: "'Ancient Heritage: A play of New England Aristocracy.' By Philip Parker (Massachusetts). The Characters: Sarah Bancroft (Jane Cover); Carrie Bancroft (Mildred Howard); Edward Kendall (The Author); Richard Kendall (William Wang). Time: the present. A morning in June. Place: the living room of the Bancroft-Kendall home in a suburban New England town. Director: Douglas Hume. 'Ancient Heritage' by Philip Parker of Reading, Massachusetts is a play of three centuries of New England tradition. The two women represented are an integral part of the two-hundred-year-old red frame house, the scene of the play. They are one with the giant elm which guards it and the ancestral pines which shade it from the summer heat. Sarah and Carrie Bancroft, the author's kinswomen represent the fierce pride and true humility of the family in decadence. Mr. Parker has created a crisis in the lives of these two which in reality they barely escaped. He has succeeded admirably, it seems to us, in presenting an hones picture of his own people with affection and tolerance." RF photo #21122g.
