(a&b) At 48 hours after inoculation (HAI), some appressoria have not yet produced infection hyphae (IH) while some had produced infection hypae (IH) in the bulliform cell (BC). (c ) At 72 HAI, growth of infection hypae (IH) inside the bulliform cell (BC) was noted. Note shrinkage and darkening of infected parenchyma cells (IPC). (d) At 96 HAI, the infection hyphae (IH) had colonized the bulliform cells (BC). Note the necrotic parenchyma cells (NPC). Bars= 10mm." (g) At 72 HAI, the infection hyphae (IH) had ceased growing and had started to deteriorate. (h) At 96 HAI, slight browning of very few parenchyma cells (BPC)."
